Not Fair!

I booked flights yesterday for my Mom, Stella and I to go to Connecticut for Thanksgiving. My flight was $425 which was a pretty good deal. I got my Mom a ninety-nine dollar companion flight I had coming through my American Express card. Stella's flight was $400!!!! They raised it from $150 each way to $200 each way!

Now, I don't mind paying for my dog to fly with me and truth be told, I would've paid the $425 I paid for myself for her IF they would let her have a seat. Or at the very least, let her ride in my lap. But for $400 she has to ride in a closed carrier under the seat in front of me. Totally not fair!

If she were a child under the age of two, she would be allowed to ride for free on my lap. And she is much better behaved on a flight than about 95% of children I see on planes. Not to mention that I also lightly sedate her to make sure she has an uneventful flight, she's never bitten anyone, she's not an agressive dog and she's a seasoned traveler who sleeps for the entire flight.

And the argument about how it wouldn't be fair to people with dog allergies doesn't hold water. Delta allows in cabin pets as long as they fall under the weight limit so if you have allergies, they don't care. There may be dogs or cats in the cabin. Not only that, but the havanese is considered a hypo-allergenic dog and she gets groomed once a week. She smells better than a lot of folks I've had the misfortune to be assigned to sit next to on a flight.

I won't even start on why it upsets me that she also doesn't qualify for a frequent flier number and therefore can't earn any frequent flier perks.

Hmmm, I wonder if American Express would issue her a credit card so that she could charge her flights and at least get frequent flier benefits from them?

Credit cards are issued to dogs and dead people everyday. Maybe dad could get one too.
